When reading a realism story it's like seeing the world how everyone else sees it.  The way this literary period came about is very interesting because people were tired of only hearing romantic stories so they did the opposite. Their feelings and thoughts were expressed through their work regardless of how hard it was to understand or imagine. The fact that this kind of literature was accepted and published allows a variety of different mindsets to be viewed. It also expresses a different type of writing, one not many people would accept. They would turn their head to it. Outside of the personal image it creates, the structure and strength of the work is so captivating. As it says on the slides, Romanticism isn’t about love stories it represents the beginning of American creativity in writing. Romantic writers valued emotions and imagination over facts and logic. This was truly the beginning of fictional writing in American literature. Without this time period in American literature we probably wouldn’t have stories from authors like Stephen King, who wrote fictional stories like It, The Shining, and Pet Sematary. The Romantic writers of this time period included Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne was on the darker side of the Romanticism period with his horror stories, much like Stephen King is in modern day writing.

People started to express their selves through music and Jazz. I also think it's great how gospel music was made big during this time! I would infer that musicians were more likely to step out of their comfort zone and were inspired by other artist to follow their dreams. African Americans also were at a high point where they had more opportunities to get jobs. Whites were also listening to the music played by African Americans in this time period, so I would infer that racial issues were not as bad as some of the other eras before and after this time. The Harlem Renaissance era was overlapped in the Modernism era, and this was seen in Fitzgerald's book "The Great Gatsby".
