The Battle Of Vicksburg, also known as the Siege of Vicksburg, took place in Vicksburg, Mississippi. This battle occurred during Civil War times where the south was fighting the north of the United States. The United States President at the time, Abraham Lincoln, claimed Vicksburg was the key for the north to win the Civil War because it would open the northern route of the Mississippi River.

...After disagreement Grant came up with new terms. Instead of total surrender for the confederates and their city, Grant offered parole for his soldiers. Pemberton took these terms because he didn't have any other options and wasn't in any place to recommend new ones. The next day the Union took the city and control of the Mississippi river.
