The students benefited from seeing one problem modeled before getting to practice the concept with a classmate. In general, my AMP classes love working in partners/small groups so they enjoyed having the opportunity to work together to complete their own percent change problem after the model. I had them do it twice. Once with talking, the other without talking. It went really well and gave a lot of my students a chance to grasp number sense of negative numbers!

In AMP6+ we did a jigsaw activity. It was a good way for them to see the relationship visually. In the future, I would maybe add more numbers or have them work in smaller groups so they are responsible for more. Some students are still very defiant when it comes to working with others (especially not their "friends"). Students enjoyed getting up and moving throughout the classroom. They were able to socialize but also complete the activity effectively.
