This music video caused some mix opinions, with some viewers loving the fun side of Miley, and others criticising her for being a bad role model. This was perhaps Miley's objective, as being depicted a 'teen idol' for most of her adolescent life, she was attempting to break away. The second half of her performance is with the singer Robin Thicke, in a joint rendition of his famous song Blurred Lines. This song, similarly to We Can't Stop by Cyrus, is about sex (or even rape in the case of Blurred Lines) and partying. In this performance, Miley is closely grinding twerking and thrusting on Robin Thicke. This absolutely blew up in the media, again with mix reviews. Some applauded Miley for a 'stand out' performance (Capital radio) whilst others questioned the involvement of drugs and whether this was appropriate for an awards ceremony where the apparent average age was 14. Some media sources even claimed Miley was 'masturbating' on stage by touching herself, and also Robin Thicke, with a giant foam finger. From singing about sex, to dancing sexually, to wearing minimal clothing on stage. The video linked below shows Cyrus in an S&M inspired music video, which was played at a Pornhub festival in New York City. Miley was keen to display her transformation into a woman. It is not unusual for a female celebrity to use sex as a form of increased publicity, and unfortunately it seems to be seen as a necessity in the music and acting careers. It seems Miley embraced the use of sexualisation as a tactic to shed a previous persona. The famous, and again controversial song by Miley, 'Wrecking Ball', where Miley is naked and swinging from a giant ball, is rumoured to be about her volatile relationship with Liam Hemsworth. It wouldn't be a stretch to say Miley's behaviour could have been as a response to her breakup with Liam.
