On the other hand, parameters refers to the rules specific to each language, which are not innate. This conceives two connected claims on his part, the first one says that we have some knowledge from the very beginning, of the grammar of our language, and this is unconscious because we are not thinking about grammar. He uses the term  "competence" to this knowledge that lies deep in us.
