What OS do?
Controls the hardware and coordinates its use among the various application programs for the various users.

OS manage resources:
-Monitor
-Printer
-Mouse
-Applications
-Hard Drive

OS viewpoints:
1. User View
   - Single user computers 
      = Design for one user to monopolize the resources
   - Multi user computers
      = Share resources and exchange information
   - Handheld computers 
      = Optimized for usability and battery life
   - Embedded computers
      = Run without user intervention

2. System View
   - Two different views:
      1. OS is a resource allocator
          = Manages all resources
      2. OS is a control program
           = Controls execution of programs

How computer gets started: Bootstrap program is loaded at powerup or reboot

Computer System Operation
- Once kernel loaded and executing, it can provide services to the systems and    its users.

Interrupts:
- Hardware = Trigger by sending a signal to CPU
- Software = Trigger by executing an operation called a system call.
