I went to a college prep high school that was primarily white students and there was an innumerable amount of times at that school that I felt even from it's policies and way it was run that it was never created to be welcoming to students of color.

A disempowering experience I had in K-12 school was having ''friends" that would make me do all the work in projects and I would always feel stressed out.

in early k-12 like kindergarten and first grade i was treated like I wasn't smart due to me either being black or to me being older for my class. This still ended up happening a lot throughout school but eventually in high school I had teachers who actually knew the types of experiences i was coming from and could honestly teach me more that way. so that was definitely a positive experience.

I went to a catholic white washed school (in my opinion) and I was new and coming from public to private school. Peole were so rude and no belife system. In 8th grade people would assume bad of my character or judge or say things like you would get pregnant first or even messed up things like you would be drugged on the street . Even overly call me slow . I dont care now because I'm wayy better where I'm at now. Good grades, going to a university, getting honoes, working and still living my life . At the end alot of those people became hypocrites. I even had a teacher try to break up my friendship because she didnt think I was fit to be her friend. Crazy but Im happy I know im straight

a disempowering experience was in elementary school when my art teacher asked the class about something related to a drawing technique, and no one knew the answer accept the one kid who stayed ater school the day before. Back then parents had to pay extra for their kid to be taken care of after school, but apprently to learn ahead of the art class as well. Basically this pissed me off because the kids parents where paying for him to win, and literaly no other student had that going for them because it was a minority school.

An empowering moment was when I was able to mentor elementary schoolers beack in high school as a volunteer and I really got so much acknowledgement from the school principal but especially the teacher of the class because no other mentor she had worked with had been able to tolerate the kids she taught, untill I volunteered of course.

A disempowering experience I’ve had through k-12 is basically my whole experience in the ELD/ELS program and how difficult they made it for students to be redesignated. I shouldn't have been in the program in the first place since I was born and raised in CA speaking and understanding English.

I was told I was wasted potential.

Many of my friends would resort to asking me for help with their homework, mainly math, physics, or chemistry, because I was always the “smart” one in the friend group.

I have more to talk about here because the education is completely different from where I am from. I came here at my 15's and I went to 9 grade I was supper weird because I was with students that all they were supper smart and I seem kinna dumb to no even understand what they where saying. It was so helpful to have had an extra support from my high teachers and counselors.

In elementary school they would put me and my little sister in the Spanish speaking classes and one of the teachers would be so rude every time, I wrote the date wrong since in some countries people write the day first, the month in the middle and the year at the end. She told me "In America we write the date this way".
