Having the students demonstrate what they know so a teacher can then help that student in areas of need is more beneficial than direct teaching. Students do not have the attention span for direct teaching all day, teachers also have to make that adjustment in their day.

I like the idea of "leveling up" for tests. I think including more player control, choice and making learning fun is crucial for our students

I am really liking the idea of using Ping-Pong review for our chapters we are reading. This would be fun and a way for all the students to get involved and a great way to review the book.

In math I do the 1-2-3 for answering questions. If a student feels confident in their answer they hold up one finger, 2 fingers- not sure but feel safe even if they are incorrect, 3- not at all- please do not call on me. I always let them know that holding up 3 does not excuse you from answering, but it lets me know and I will go over and walk him/her through the problem, more times then not they do know but are afraid to answer.

I find that having a support system and a great team makes everything better. I love how our school is embracing new ideas to get the kids excited and happy about being at school from playing music during passing period, Mystery staff member, weekly class of the week, attendance rewards and other positive reinforcements we are implementing.

I feel that my exhaustion comes from the constant redirect, lack of parent support and the amount of excuses for not doing what they (students) need to do to be successful. Parents who feel that an IEP is an automatic pass to move on and their child has no accountability and rules/expectations do not apply.
