This type of writing is called cuneiform. Cuneiform comes from a Latin term that means wedge-shaped. First the scribes had to break down down the words into sounds. According to the priest the king was sent to heaven. The kings where chosen by the gods to rule Sumer.  The priests and kings also worked together to make  holidays like new years festival.
