Hi everyone! As a student teacher here in Manila, I've been studying how human activities contribute to climate change. The main culprit? Greenhouse gas emissions! When we burn fossil fuels for electricity, transportation, and industry, we release CO2 and other gases that trap heat in our atmosphere. Here in the Philippines, we see this through increasing vehicle emissions in our busy cities.

Living in the Philippines, deforestation hits close to home. Our region has lost significant forest cover due to logging, agriculture, and urban development. When trees are cut down, they can't absorb CO2 anymore, plus the carbon stored in them is released. Did you know our country lost about 10.9% of forest cover from 2001 to 2021? We need to protect our remaining forests!

Agriculture, particularly industrial farming, contributes significantly to climate change. The use of chemical fertilizers, intensive livestock farming, and rice cultivation methods release greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide. As someone from a country where rice farming is essential, I've learned how traditional farming practices can be more environmentally friendly.

Being from an archipelagic nation, this issue really worries me. Many Filipino coastal communities are already experiencing the effects of rising sea levels. Some of our islands are particularly vulnerable, and we're seeing more frequent flooding in low-lying areas. This isn't just about losing land - it's about losing homes, livelihoods, and cultural heritage.

We Filipinos know too well how climate change intensifies natural disasters. Super typhoons like Yolanda (Haiyan) have become more frequent and stronger. These extreme weather events destroy infrastructure, disrupt education, and sadly, cost lives. Our schools often serve as evacuation centers during these calamities.
