Firstly, the accounting theory is a fundamental theoretical framework for accounting practices. 

Secondly, accounting theories can provide accountants some supporting ideas to tackle with those complicated problems. 

Thirdly, although technologies are constantly changing, grasping the theories of accounting will not be affected by different technology eras. 

Furthermore, accounting theories enable accountant to cope with accounting problems more logically. 

 

The accounting standards and accounting handbook are both essential when applying the normative theories. The real accounting cases and experiences are remarkable for leaning positive theories.  University is a good place to further research and learn about the normative theories and positive theories.

Consider the importance of theory to the workplace and discuss where it is best to learn about theoretical matters.


We agree that studying accounting theory is not a waste of time:


  • Full and comprehensive understanding of the accounting theory will reduce the level of bias or misunderstanding on the decisions. 
  • Theory could work as a standard that every accountant will follow it. Also, it saves time for them to conduct their job.
  • Learning the theories will improve the ability to have critical thinking and will get you stand out from other accountants. 


There are two ways to learn the theories:


Depending on the types of theories;


Prescriptive theory


E.g. working experience from workplace


Normative theory 


E.g. AASB
