         <description><![CDATA[<p>Elizabeth Acevedo started writing when she was only 8 years old! She had written poems all through high school, she began writing because it gave her a way to express her feelings about how her community's stories go unrepresented. She wrote her story to empower members of her ethnic and  cultural background by telling their life stories. As a high school student, she wrote the poem "In Translation" This poem sparked her popularity in the writing community, and from there on she would come to write Poet X, With the fire on high, clap when you land, soul food, and so many more pieces. </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Clap when You Land takes place a few months after 9/11 in both New York city and the Dominican Republic. </p><p><br/></p><p>Clap When You Land examines the issue of families emotionally and fascinatingly. The plot revolves around two young girls, Camino and Yahaira, who live in different countries but share the same father, who dies in a horrible plane crash. As the daughters come to terms with their father's death and the discovery of each other's existence, they face the complexity of family relationships. Despite their initial shock and disbelief, Camino and Yahaira find refuge in each other, forming a friendship that transcends geographical and cultural barriers. Through their alternate perspectives, the work explores the complexities of family relationships, such as love, loss, forgiveness, and acceptance.          <description><![CDATA[<p> Cupcake Brown's memoir "A Piece of Cake" describes her turbulent journey through foster care, addiction, and, ultimately, forgiveness. One of the book's primary themes is the concept of family and how it changes and transforms over Cupcake's lifetime.<br><br>Cupcake's family is initially broken as a result of her parents' negligence and desertion, which forces her into foster care. Throughout her youth and adolescence, she has struggled to establish a feeling of belonging and security, relying on friendships and temporary families formed with other foster children.<br><br>As Cupcake grows older and struggles with addiction, she meets a variety of people who become surrogate family members, providing support and direction when her biological family cannot.
