4. The role I feel technology plays into this whole subject matter is that  just as in the videos given, this new era of children are "Digital Learners" which I can see why they are as in High School I became one. I only came to realize that in college that I would have to depend on i even more as I live in the library behind a computer. 

 

I also think that Mr. Pink is on to something with right brain abilities becoming a bigger force.  In school, often, the arts, creative clubs, creative outlets are the first to get cut with budgeting or don’t get as much funding.  I know at my high school, the business club and the football team got the most funding while the marching band didn’t get as much.  I think that with right brains getting more respect there would hopefully be more resources to right brain students in the learning environment.  

2.       The current education system isn’t all bad, like many people would lead you to believe.  Special Education has made great strides in student progress and learning and many more people are understanding of those with disabilities now.  Testing in the schools is the biggest issue I have.   Often, in elementary schools the testing you must do with the kids can eat up entire days and weeks taking away from valuable time to teach the kids.  

3.       Media can affect what is taught in the classroom due to the ability to get instant news coverage of incidences and events and can lead to a lot of lessons about source checking, fact checking, getting view points from all sides, etc.  Media can also affect the classroom because if you get enough angry moms on about something, it will change.  If a large enough organization or group decides they don’t like something with the education system, all they must do is go to the school board and can get stuff changed.  For instance, sex education is often dictated by the moms of the area and what is being taught.  As teachers, I think we must be prepared to say no to some things and be prepared to not agree with everything we must teach.  

4.       Technology plays into all of this because we get all our information through technology and it’s how we communicate.  If kids are spending most of their day in front of screen, like it talked about in the k-12 video, we must be prepared to educate our kids on how to best use the technology to benefit them and teach them some control.  IF the students are going home to all this technology, who’s to say what influence the parents are giving them, we as the teachers need to educate them and guide them through how to use technology in a way that is healthy and beneficial and encourage less screen time at home.  

3. The media is an endless galaxy of information. This is cool in a way because students are able to research precisely the things that interest them. Students will be influenced based on the websites or channels that they habitually view. The viewpoints of the media might end up doing the thinking for us if we forget to use critical thinking skills. As a teacher, we need to encourage creative and critical thinking. We also need to show students how to strengthen these skills as a part of their routine. 

4. Technology is a great way to take short cuts. It can save us a lot of time that we can use to learn more things. However, as teachers I think we need to demonstrate the importance of human interaction and collaboration. Humans are social creatures, and we have to be weary not to let the machines take over. Therefore, as technology advances we need to also focus on social skills. 

People are beginning to realize things must change. Unfortunately, it was designed for a different generation. Public education is a good thing because it allows students equal opportunity. While this is good it is not exactly true, equality means everyone gets the same, what we need is equity which makes education fair for all. Technology is beginning to be incorporated into classrooms which is improving the learning of students. However, a lot of teachers are not trained in proper technology use and therefore, either use it improperly, or not at all.

Media opens doors for education. In some places in the country where there are not enough teachers, they can offer online classes. This is how students from the middle of nowhere can make it out of there. Media has changed what is taught because with all the info you could ever need at your fingertips, teachers have had to switch from testing facts, to testing theory. I believe technology is pushing teachers out of their comfort zone and that is a good thing. As a teacher, we could either choose to fight against the current and drown, or swim with it and thrive. 

Technology is the current pushing us and pulling us into new directions. As Daniel Pink mentions, we no longer are teaching how to think in stressful situations, we aren’t trying to survive anymore, we can now learn to thrive. Technology could be the force that speeds up the process for kids living in poverty. If they had access to online classes, maybe they would be able to find their way to a better life. As I said earlier technology is just a current and if we want to advance we must swim with it and not against it.

1.       I want the future of education to be much more inclusive than it is right now. I really liked the video that compared the education system to a factory environment. I think there is so much truth in that. A lot of incredibly intelligent students never realize their potential because they don’t learn, interact, or perform well in the cookie cutter model of education that’s so common in American. I think there needs to more focus on individual students and less on standardized testing, benchmarks, age groups, and levels. 

2.       In my opinion, the biggest negative in education right now is standardized testing as a measure of learning and intelligence. I don’t think it’s accurate and the focus on doing well on those tests hinders overall education. For example, one of my best friends always makes A’s, she’s the hardest working person I know, she graduated top 5 of our class, and she failed/ barely passed every standardized test we took from fifth grade to graduation. She’s incredibly smart but her performance on standardized testing/ test anxiety limited the options for which colleges she could attend. A positive is that education is starting to incorporate more technology/ alternate creative ways of accomplishing tasks, projects, and assignments. 

3.       I think media influences most aspects of our daily lives so of course it affects our world as students and as teachers. Its education and entertainment. It’s such a phenomenon that I think as teachers it would be foolish to do anything but embrace it. If we can harness it as an educational tool then we can put it to a good use while keeping our students interested in what’s going on in class as well as the world. 

4.       Technology is the tool in which most media is observed.  It’s in the pockets and households of the majority of people in the world.  It’s how we stay current and in a lot of ways tuned into the world around us. It’s a great tool for education because it’s captured the attention of society as a whole. I think it goes back to what one of the videos said about intrinsic motivation. People perform better when they have a vested interest in what they are doing as opposed to doing something because they have to. 

2. One positive thing that is currently involved in education is the many teaching styles that are implicated in lessons. One negative thing would be that we do not teach children how to independently critical think. Another positive thing would be that we do not have standardized testing in grades k-2. The next negative thing would be teachers do not include a variety of different resources in their lessons. 

3.  I feel like media influence education more so when something bad happens that is related to schools is shown on the media. The school feels more of a need to fix it then rather than when it is not acknowledged. Media influences education in general, because the need to teach children how to use media properly, how to check a media source out and how to make informed decisions. We have to teach the children about media and its uses along with everything else you have to teach.

4. Technology should and does play a big part in education. It will assist the teacher in teaching and the students in learning. Some of the roles that are inside the giant role is an informer, conductor and a recorder.

-Teaching in groups based on age

-Teaching everyone the same thing the same way/ not individualized

-College is overpriced/ not affordable for some

-Destroyed originality

-Not enough time to actually educate

*Both:

-Standardized testing: Positive- everyone nationally is getting the same baseline means of education; no advantages/disadvantages from school to school. Negative- it creates competition rather than focusing on the success of the student and is not fair for those that do not test well. 
-Simplicity: Positive- information on anything that one wishes to know is easily accessible and not difficult to find. Negative- one can find anything within seconds through the use of technology rather than taking steps to actually research and learn the material.
3. Media is a huge influential factor in today’s society as a whole. We live in an era where media is controlling most of our lives in some way or another. I feel as if media does not influence what is being taught unless it is dealing with events going on currently. I believe that the information being taught should remain the same within the curriculum no matter what is going on in the media. In terms of classes offered, I also feel as if media does not directly influence this matter. Unless there is a vast interest in certain subjects that are being expressed through media, I do not feel as if the classes being offered will change. On the other hand, I do believe media is influencing education in general in both positive and negative ways. It is positive for reasons such as effective communication, gathering knowledge, exemplifying different insights on information, etc. It is negative because of its misuse in today’s society. Rather than using media for beneficial reasoning’s within education, users have misemployed this tool. Media is seen more as a distraction than a beneficial tool in today’s time. As teachers, we must make sure our students are properly using media.
4. Most media sources nowadays are digital and require the use of technology. Technology has become a vital component of today’s society and seems to keep everyone sane. Without technology, media would not be as convenient and accessible as it is today. It can be used as a beneficial teaching/learning tool if used properly in education. On the negative side of media usage, technology is the source in which distraction arises.
