Legislative Power

First we have the legislative power, which makes and votes on laws. This branch is contains two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. In the House of Representatives, there are 435 representatives that discuss matters such as declaring war, ratifying treaties, and taxing citizens. In order to be a representative for this house, you have to have been a citizen for 7 years, live in the state you represent, and be at least 25 years old. In the Senate, though, its 100 members have to have been a citizen for 9 years, live in the state you represent, and be at least 30 years old. When comparing these two houses, the House of Representatives have two year terms and each states number of representatives is determined based off of its population; whereas for the Senate each member serves for 6 years and each state has 2. Other important facts about the legislative branch (or Congress) are that the House of Representative’s chosen Speaker the third in line to the presidency, the Senate has the power to reject the president’s choices for his cabinet (for example), and that this branch manages the countries annual budget.

To start off, the head of the executive branch is the president. The president is then able to appoint a Cabinet to help him. This and the White House Staff department’s members must be approved by the Senate. The president also has the ability to suggest Supreme Court judges but they must also be approved by the Senate to officially be in office. The Cabinet is made up of 15 branches and is a part of the EOP, which includes the White House Communications, the Press Secretary, and the Office of Management and Budget as well. The president’s duty is to enforce the laws of Congress and can sign or veto these legislations in the process. Lastly, the vice president is the next in line to the presidency.

The Judicial Branch is made up of basically just judges and courts. Within this there first are 94 US District Courts, then comes the 13 Courts of Appeals, and finally there is the Supreme Court which has the last say in matters. The Supreme Court contains 6-9 justices who serve for life! This branch’s main purpose is to interpret the laws passed by the legislative branch, but it also upholds the right to trial as well (however only one trial is allowed per case).

The three branches that make up this democratic government are the Legislative Power, the Executive Power, and the Judicial Power. These three branches each provide each other with many checks and balances, while also having individual jobs to better maintain the country. As people say, the more the merrier and multiple brains think better than one. Let’s explore the branches functions in more detail!

These are:

-Amendment 1: freedom of speech, petition, religion, assembly, and press.
-Amendment 2: right to bear arms.
-Amendment 3: right to privacy.
-Amendment 4: no unreasonable searches.
-Amendment 5: one crime = one trial.
-Amendment 6: ensurement to confront witnesses swiftly.
-Amendment 7: right to trial.
-Amendment 8: no excess bail/fines.
-Amendment 9: not all rights are listed in the Constitution.
-Amendment 10: not all power is listed as well but is still protected.

As the title states, this new constitution forms a stronger government! It does this through the additional power given to the government. However, this strength comes with many checks and balances to make sure no one person remains in charge. For example, there are three branches that split up this power for many people to handle.
