Curtin scientists are part of an international research team that studied an ancient supervolcano in Indonesia and found such volcanoes remain active and hazardous for thousands of years after a super-eruption, prompting the need for a rethink of how these potentially catastrophic events are predicted. Associate Professor Martin Danišík, lead Australian author from the John de Laeter Centre based at Curtin University, said supervolcanoes often erupted several times with intervals of tens of thousands of years between the big eruptions but it was not known what happened during the dormant periods."Gaining an understanding of those lengthy dormant periods will determine what we look for in young active supervolcanoes to help us predict future eruptions," Associate Professor Danišík said.

It’s unusually large for this stage in season and growing. More than 2.2 million acres have been burned to a crisp. There is a big fire in Sequoia National Forest that started in August 2021 the fire was started by a lightning strike. The reason this is so important is because the Forest has a big tree called General Sherman and they have now been wrapping fire resistant blankets around it to protect it. This tree is 2,200 years old and it is the biggest tree by volume on earth.

The reason in the past year there has been so many wildfires and why some of them including this one hasn’t stoppered is because it is very dry and hot, this is caused by climate change.

The lightning strike is physical geography and climate change is environmental geography.

Alistair

People in Wales don't like the idea of this and over 600 people have signed a petition. Dolawens idea has raised concerns over the environment. The company claims they have taken the concerns and worries on board. Many species of wildlife have returned to this silent quarry since it stopped operating in 2002. This beautiful quarry includes the only turlough in the
UK mainland, the Pantllyn Turlough. This construction will damage Wildlife and increase pollution. Campaigners have claimed they have already started pumping water, and have photos showing it's reduced water levels. A letter was sent from the NRW stating they must have a licence to remove water from the quarry.
I think this is environmental geography.
