I'll focus on the setting/set and the casting: I can't imagine a better place for the first production of Loving Wendy. The breadth and depth of the stage at Het Amsterdam Theatrehuis was the perfect choice for a split focus stage and enabled the cast to demonstrate the interplay between the generations and locations. I also loved the attention to detail with the props like the letters and the furniture from the 1970's, as it brought the setting to life beautifully!

Another thing that really stood out for me was the casting. It is a sign of spot-on casting when you can't imagine another actor living the role more fully-this applies most to Wendy and Karen-their portrayals were so moving, and they had an infectious chemistry on stage. That scene with the letter was ethereal and beautifully choreographed and lit. Overall, this production has lingered with me, making me think of the road not travelled, as well as what right do we have to our parents past, especially their secrets? If I had the chance..I would go again. Maybe in New York next time!

The woman who played Karen was just astounding! What stuck with me most after the play was the twist of the betrayal after intermission - I was completely taken aback by what Wendy had done, and how it completely turned the idea of "using" someone on its head. It was not where I thought the play was going at all!

In this play that spans decades and countries, Katie effectively subverts the oft-portrayed binary of womanhood: either you acquiesce to a domesticated life in the suburbs or you burn your bra and scorn men. The second act muddies this trope in a thoughtful, nuanced way that raises questions about gender, power, and feminism. The play serves as a reminder that true equity centers choice and voice.

Well done Katie! I am so in awe. Your brilliance. dedication and perseverance are an inspiration. I loved it. Let ved the staging, the time spanning, the local and universal. I loved mostly the layering and richness of detail and intimacy. It’s still with me- how can I feel one way about a character and change my perspective during the play? I loved that.’ And what art can be and do. And the humour from the male characters. It’s more than growing on me, ‘like

Ivy’, it’s a goddam jungle’. Well done you. I am so proud and deeply

impressed. Living, Annabel

A beautiful cinematic experience across geography and time, the play captivated me from start to finish. The staging of the different scenes with staged areas in the space were like scenes in a movie, and the story arcs of both Karen and Linda were captivating. A moment in particular that stays with you was the voice over transition of the letter from the person reading it, into the person writing it… so effective, and it was as if one person melted into another. The trad masc role in the play was amusing and cliche at first but then developed an unexpected softness and safety for Karen as she struggled to find her footing as a world of intrigue turned upside down for her. The play carries with it morals of inherited behaviors, conformity, rebellion, and misunderstanding and that being true to yourself is a battle of the heart and mind. Congrats

The significance and message also built throughout the play, mixing a deep message with wonderful presentation. Particularly great performance by the lead actress!!

The experience tapping into my own experiences of clearing out a deceased parents home, femininity, social expectations, betrayals, and standing up for who we are. The vignettes effectively gave a sense of time and place. I'm in awe! Loved, loved loved this!

I agree with everything people have said here. The story became more interesting as it unfolded in unexpected ways, but not unrealistic. For me it showed how unique we all are and how interactions between people can move in so many different ways. Furthermore, the actors were just brilliant. For me the place, the area and the fact I was there with my 18 year old daughter was incredibly special.
