Lasting from October 29, 1929, through sometime in 1939, The Great Depression was one of the worst economic events we ever faced. If the stock market crash  in 1929 which resulted from various economic imbalances & structural failings wasn’t enough, the great depression followed right after. The Great depression was a result of about 9,000 banks failing  to do their job. If you lost your money they point blankly said “oh well”. Roughly thirteen to fifteen million U.S citizens were unemployed and most families became poor or poorer. Everyday life looked horrible and gray. The people affected were mainly the U.S and those indebted to us. The Great Depression finally ended at the end of World War 2 when prosperity was restored by the sharp reductions in spending, taxes, and regulation.

Mayella Ewell (the victim) , accused Tom Robinson of Raping her. Mr. Heck Tate(the Sherif), Mr. Bob Ewell (Mayella's father), Tom Robinson(the accused), & Mayella Ewell were the witness's.  Mr. Faith Taylor Was The Judge of the trial, and Atticus Finch and Jay Grimes were the appointed lawyers. The Trial Started with the questioning of Heck Tate. He explained that Mr. Ewell had called him and said his girl got raped. Then Bob Ewell explained Mayella's injuries and Atticus found that Mayella was punched in her right eye by someone that is left handed. Then she was apparently strangled/choked with two hands. When it was Tom Robinson's turn to testify the whole audience saw that his arm was disabled do to a factory accident that happened when he was younger. Now a standard neck is typically thick(this goes for Mayella Ewell), and there would be no way for tom to have done these crimes. All the facts prove he is innocent but he was still found guilty by the jury. Then, a few weeks later, he was shot dead trying to escape prison.

He was shot dead with seventeen bullet holes in him. Since he was accused of raping a white women (Mayella Ewell). He was found guilty and was transported to Enfield Prison Farm , which was 70 miles away in Chester County.
Currently, his wife Helen Robinson(Tom's Wife), and her three kids are left with out a male figure. The family is heavily grieving and are devastated from his loss.
Among the African American community, he was a hardworking and respected man. Even his white boss respected him. A few years prior to his death, Tom was badly injured in an accident and lost his left arm. 
So in summary, Tom Robinson, age 25, lived in Maycomb County, Alabama, from 1900 to 1925. His parents were Mr. & Mrs.Robinson. The Main actors who played in the movie was Gregory Peck(Atticus Finch), Phillip Alfred(Jem Finch), Mary Boldham(Scout Finch), and Brock Peters(playing Tom Robinson). Altogether I think it was a fantastic movie and was acted out perfectly. It also showed just how bad racism was back then. The movie was about a black man( Tom Robinson) accused of raping a white girl and was defended by a white man. In the end, even though the facts proved him guilty, he was still found guilty.  The fact that Atticuss defended him offended people  and there were later problems as a result.

It made things unfair for all African Americans and they were treated unequally. The book "To Kill A Mockingbird" showed this perfectly when a black man was wrongfully accused of raping a white woman. He was clearly proven innocent but since he was black things didn't work out for him. Everyone believed African Americans were bad, stole, killed, raped, and overall were just non-human beings. This racist injustice was just horrible. I personally thunk that all people are created equal no matter what. Just because they look different from us doesn't mean they should be treated left. That's my opinion on racism in the 1930's and in "To Kill A Mockingbird".
