I will design a robot that can vacuum and then mop floors efficiently and effectively, by using the three design elements of a robot: locomotion, end effectors, and appearance.

Website was helpful to see the pros and cons of what makes a vacuum great. For example, some pros include suction power, functional and easy to move, and different cleaning modes. Cons include battery drains quickly, struggles to pick up fine materials, hard to clean the dustpan. These help me grasp what to add and what to be careful of when designing.

This website was helpful to see what mops sell good and why. For example, this mop sold well because it was compact and did not take up a lot of space in storage. Also, it got all of the nit and grits in textured floors which is important to get a superior mop.

-There will be two wheels with tracks so the vacuum can be sure to get in every corner.

-The wheels will be used with left-to-right and forward-to-backward.

End Effectors

One end effector on our vacuum will be a few brushes that rotate and collect dirt and debris after a sensor detects there is a mess. In addition to the brushes, the vacuum intake will suck up the dirt and debris that the brushes collect. By using both of these it will ensure for a great vacuum. For the mopping there will be a spray nozzle at the top of the vacuum, using what floor cleaning solution you choose. Then after the brushes self-clean, they will help spread around the floor solution.

After researching, the bestselling vacuums were sleek and compact looking. Our vacuums will be all black with a sensor on the top of the vacuum to know when it needs more cleaning solution and is low on battery. Also, at the top will be where the battery compartment is, allowing the consumer to have easy access to switch the batteries out. Even though there are two elements at the top, it will be completely seamless to give the sleek and compact look.

3. How it Works on the Inside

Some handless vacuums move with two big wheels controlling left-to-right as well as forward-and-backward. There are dirt sensors in the vacuum, so they know when to start suctioning any mess.

The battery compartment is on the top, and the little dash represents how you can easily get the top of the compartment off to replace the battery. At the bottom are the sensors. The left one being low cleaning solution, the middle being new batteries, and the right being the dustpan is full.

Front view

From the front you can still see the sensors, but it still gives a seamless and simple look to keep the cost down.
