Hello everyone! My name is Larissa Fuentes. I am a sophomore majoring in child development. I have always wanted to work with younger kids since I was little. When I was around family and friends I was always taking care of the younger kids there. I always found myself watching over them and just playing with all of the younger kids. I am very to myself I have always been very independent. I have a part-time job at a restaurant. I am 19 years old I was born and raised in Turlock. I love to bake. Baking is definitely my favorite thing to do. Other than baking I love to play with all of my friend's dogs, they all just got puppies so it's heaven. Family is very important to me. Spending time with family is also another thing I love to do.

When I think of sustainability I think about something that has to be done. There is a lot to know and learn about sustainability. I think of it being long- term: when something is being done its not just for right now its for later on in the future as well. Like most of us we do certain things to make our planet better such as recycling, not using plastic, and being aware of how much water and electricity we use. All of those are important for our environment. Not only will it help us now but it will help future generations.

When I think of information literacy I think of writing. It makes me think of finding information and knowing how to have a basic understanding of what you have found. Reading, writing, and being able to explain and understand what exactly the information is. I'm sure there is more to it but that is what I think of it off the top of my head. I'm looking forward to learning more about this and being able to learn it in a creative, open, and friendly environment.

Topic Proposal

A healthy diet is extremely important for good health. Not only do we need food for nutrients that give us energy for movement and growth. We need it to help us from diseases/ illness. Poor diets would lead to health issues none of us would like to deal with. I would like to explore young adult's in the United States' involvement with the topic of being about healthy food. This falls under the social pillar of sustainability. This interests me because I am a young adult myself in the U.S. I want to learn what a healthy diet is and what it looks and feels like. I believe this is important information because without good health we wouldn't live a long healthy life. People should care about what they put in their bodies, we can't control everything in our body but we do have the ability to decide what we want to feed our immune system. Why not put in all the nutrients we need to help us. To know more and be able to use this information in my daily life is what I am most thrilled about. From the reading "What is sustainability" under "Food" mentions the environmental effects of multiple dietry patterns. Which I would like to know more about what they are and what they consist of. I would enjoy knowing what proportions we need to consume of plants and animals. I have had some acquaintances tell me they feel better physically and mentally when they don't eat as much meat or none at all. I hope to know what a healthy diet could do for our bodies and mind. Would young adults have more energy if consuming all the right nutrients we need for our body? Why do a lot of young adults consume fast food/junk foods? What could young adults do to encourage others to eat better?

Practice and Reflect Rhetorical analysis and information literacy

I chose to analyze the article " Everyone is Tired of Always Staying Silent": Inside a Worker Rebellion in the Central Valley written by Julie Lurie. After reading this article I notice the author's purpose is about immigrant workers being treated poorly at their nut - processing plant. Veronica Perez a mother of three children that is employed for Primex plants states how the employees are treated unfairly during a pandemic. They were not given sick pay if they tested positive for covid. Many of the employees were testing positive at the 400 -person plant. Ill workers were having to stay at home without pay during the time of lockdown in March. Even though these workers are essential they had to stay home without pay. A lot of people cannot skip a pay period because they have bills to pay so a lot of employees kept working even when ill. They could not afford to not go to work. To top it off the Primex did not inform their employees of these covid cases but did inform the local news. Perez decides to walk out early from work and protest. A rhetorical device I noticed was the use of pathos. I myself come from an immigrant family and any readers who do as well will be affected with emotion. Perez stated, “Most workers prefer to always keep quiet for fear of losing their jobs or for fear of retaliation.." This demonstrates emotion for those who know of or have been in this situation. People tend to stay quiet because they fear the outcome if they were to speak up. I feel sad and upset that people I know have experienced this and that there are still many others that deal with this conflict in their lives.

As for the information literacy framework the author Julie Lurie being a senior reporter at Mother Jones. The information she provided us is relevant to what is going on in the world. Corona Virus has affected a lot of people in many different ways. It is valuable information for those also working for a large company so they are aware of what possibly could happen to anyone. This information will definitely be part of a continuing conversation, especially in my family. It is a difficult issue to deal with especially when we are dealing with financial issues and respect.

The antithesis would be Young adults do not lack a healthy diet.
The counter narrative: young adults do not lack a healthy diet. Although some don't lack a healthy diet they don't always have all of the resources/guidance to attain one. They don't always know how to start or maintain a balanced diet. If they do have all the resources that could help guide them, doesn't necessarily mean they will always work. Everyone is different therefore certain practices may not work for them. Many of them eat processed foods anything that is quick, easy, and cheap which is usually fast food.
My counter narrative can help solve my problem by helping these young adults with their unhealthy diets, reassuring them that it is okay they don't know how to attain a healthy diet and it's okay to ask for help to achieve a balanced diet. There are lots of resources/programs that they can find to work specifically for them.
