1)Napoleon came and re-established the french government after the revolution, a low point in french history. This brought stability to society.
2) Was an exceptional military commander. Almost never lost a battle, and expanded french territory to reach all the way from Russia to Spain.
3) Was resilient to reclaim france after being exiled. He came back, and with his loyal army took leadership over france.
4) Included enlightened ideas into the constitution, such as freedom of religion.
5) Led the french army as a young man, showing his maturity and natural leadership.

1) Napoleon invaded Russia too late in the fall, causing him to lose 90 percent of his troops to hypothermia and starvation.
2) With his enlightenment ideas came a loss of women's rights. women were not nearly as qualified as men in Napoleonic France.
3) In the Louisiana purchase, Napoleon essentially gave the United States free territory for the price of New Orleans.
4) Lost tons of troops due to disease when trying to halt the Haitian Slave revolt. He also lost, as the Haitian slave revolt was the only successful slave revolt in history.
5) In certain cases, Napoleon was too aggressive militarily. There were times where he would attack a neighboring country without purpose and spend too much.
