I think that having someone come in to your classroom that can teach new concepts is amazing! It brightens up their day, it shows them diversity in learning from new people and experiences. My sister in law is a Bio-chemist and I would love to have her come into my classroom one day and do experiments and tell my students what it is like to be a female scientist. I truly believe that this will teach and it will inspire!

Fostering confidence is something that can be shown to students through assessments. Making sure to give them an opportunity to give an explanation to test questions instead of a simple fill in the blank is an example. Students feel like they are able to include more of their thought process when they can write what they feel like an answer is and why.

Letting your students be a part of their education helps them feel valued. It also shows them that they can have an idea, set goals and put a plan into action. When you include a student in their learning they will also be more invested in what they are doing. When you can relate it to a tangible goal it makes them want to learn more and advance their own ideas.

Starting in about 2nd grade you can pursue peer teaching. This is a place where you can learn a lot about your students relationships to teaching and each other. Students who work with their peers are essentially going over the content more than once and therefore will retain the information batter for assessments. They are able to discuss and put the content in their own words.
