The biggest change to the field of evaluation during this age was the shift in the US military and the use of standardizing the production of tools. This is a key moment because it is one of the first time you see evaluation being used on such a wide scale. This was called "uniformity of manufacture of all arms ordnance.” It brought in accountability, checks, balances, and administrative oversight onto a specific topic.

Standards and Tests for the Measurement of the Efficiency Of Schools and School Systems is the second biggest change to the evaluation field. This change is important as it established the constant of standardized testing that would last for decades through to the modern era. The stakeholders of the different groups also began to realize its power during this era. Applying evaluation to school systems versus whole schools was one of the biggest changes.

This was another shift as less interest was put on one type of standardized test, but instead a shift to looking at different outcomes for specific evaluations. This was a shift that began to lead to the idea one type of evaluation does not work for all things, variance in evaluation is also important.

It was after global events such as sputnik that western countries began to use criteria-based reference testing. Instead of evaluation just being used to rank students, it would shift to begin having evaluations searching to see if something in specific was being met, for example, a specific mathematical idea. This shift allowed research to look beyond just the marks gained but look at bigger pictures.

The final big push for evaluation came with the creation of standards. Evaluation began more normalized with different groups coming together to create standards. A variety of inclusion of the different evaluations was conducted and interdisciplinary evaluation became more prominent.

What I am taking away from these readings is that evaluation as we know it has shifted with social and political events around us. As we see changed occurring in our society so too does the way we view evaluation. Without these key changes' evaluation would not have as prominent of a role in many aspects of life, and could very well have less uses than we have for it today.
