This is a genetic disorder that occurs when there are mutations on the ALDOB gene. This disorder happens when the body is missing an enzyme called aldolase B (the substance needed to break down fructose). Fructose is found in fruits and sweeteners. If a person without this enzyme eats fructose, complicated chemical changes occur. And the body is not able to change its stored form of sugar into glucose. Because of this, blood sugar level falls and dangerous substances build up into the liver.     • HFI is inherited in an autosomal recessive way which means mutations are present. So basically, the parents of someone who has HFI both carry a recessive, mutated gene, but since it’s recessive they usually won’t show any symptoms of HFI.
