The Bible story of Leah, Rachel and Jacob is essentially the first love story that is described in the bible. Jacob, at the time of the story, was fearful that his brother would kill him. So he headed towards his uncle Laban. It was at Laban's where he met Rachel and Leah. Leah was Rachel's older sister, and wasn't nearly as pretty. Laban had offered Jacob a place to stay, and as Jacob had fallen in love with Rachel, offered to work for seven years to make her his wife.

Laban agreed to this but on the night where Jacob was to receive Rachel he was decieved. On the night they were supposed to be married, Laban gave Leah to him as a wife instead. Jacob argued but Laban said that it wasn't the custom. However, Jacob was told that if he gave another seven years of work he would be able to have Rachel as well.

During this time Jacob showed considerable favor to Rachel, which God compensated by stopping Rachel from being able to give birth temporarily. There was an intense rivalry between the two wives. Eventually Rachel died giving birth to Jacob's second child, which left Leah.

Leah ended up giving birth to 12 sons and a daughter. However, through this family God blessed the entire world.

- Charlotte
