Thus, the coastline will retreat. However, at the same time, salt marshes will develop and they are a great natural defense mechanism against coastal erosion. Additionally, they are plentiful in minerals, which makes them a great habitat.

When there is a cliff, soft or hard engineering can be used at a higher level that the eroded land to prevent further erosion. The choice between soft and hard depends on the location. If it a place with high tourism, soft engineering may be the better alternative.
