Name: Emil Kong Dern Yao
Matric No.: A180960
Date: 15 Aug 2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes and no, but for the most part - yes.

There were some easy objectives that once I've enrolled myself into the Guitar programme, I'm almost certain of achieving that; for example, (i) learning to play the Guitar from a certified instructor, and (ii) improving my skills to the level of playing professionally.

But I also set myself a difficult objective that will ensure that this EP that I've chosen wouldn't be too easy to the point of very little personal growth at the end of my EP. For example, playing with confidence in front of a crowd, that requires much confidence that can only be trained over time and done in front of an audience and also great competence. So, in a sense this objective never really got to be achieved since there was no audience or very little of it.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
Oh, I absolutely loved every part of it. From the lessons with my tutor to the time of self-practice, I throughoutly enjoyed it. Everyone listens to music, because music in itself, is super calming and it makes you feel connected. For me specficially, what I enjoyed most is able to master my favourite songs and play them effortlessly. That's super rewarding as a musician. In fact, I'm planning to continue learning the Guitar even beyond this EP period because it's that enjoyable and rewarding.

It also made me appreciate the talents and genius of some of the more modern famous singers/songwriters who writes songs using their guitars, the likes of: Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes and Halsey. They are able to identify their vocal range and fit it with the style/genre of songs they make, that's musical genius right there.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The challenging and sometimes frustrating part of learning the guitar is when I can't really master something new fast. My attitude would tend to be less patience towards it, I just want to learn it fast. It's frustrating yet humbling at the same time. I just learn to appreciate the dedication, time and effort put into practising the Guitar by professionals or at least more competent players. Other than that, there's not much challenge to this project.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
What worked out nicely is that I've chosen a music school that's in Cheras, KL. And with my intentions to continue learning it even during my fourth year, it would be helpful (distance-wise), compared if I had chosen it to do somewhere else. Progress-wise, sticking to the same tutor is also helpful because my tutor can then monitor my progress consistently and help me grow better.

5. What can be improved in this project?
I think because of the free time that I had, I could've opted for more classes during a week, to maybe 2 classes per week, so that I can grow and improve faster. But that comes with a caveat too, that I would therefore need to pay double the amount that I'm currently paying per month.

I could've also volunteer to play for birthday parties, that could've helped me in the objective of having the confidence to play in front of an audience.

And lastly I guess, one can never have too much practice. I do wish that I have started learning earlier on in my holidays so that I would grow more.

Name: Nur Hafizah Binti Ilias
Matric No: A182030
Date: 19 Aug 2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes, because at last I got the skill of communicating with customers. I met customers from all races (Malay, Chinese and Indian). Most of them can speak Bahasa Melayu very well. I noticed the unity among these races in Malaysia is very good. They chat with each other and share sweet memories at the recreation park. So I hope we can build more recreation parks as one of the ways to unite the people in Malaysia. Second, I can earn some money. I can use the money to pay my college fee. So I do not need to ask my parents. Then I also developed interpersonal skills during this elective posting. For me, the best thing is now I can make waffles by myself. So next time, if I have time I would like to set up a waffle business near my house.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

I enjoyed chatting with customers because before this as a medical student I only chatted with patients and the communication was just about health, medication and disease. But now, I learned a new perspective with the customers. The customer's topic is about social life such as the place they come from, the beauty of the scenery at the recreation park, their feelings, their favourite waffle and others. Some of them comment about the weather. All the topics are about life. I really enjoyed seeing the customers doing their selfies at the beautiful point in the recreation park.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

The challenge is during weekdays there are fewer customers compared to weekends. It is hard to finish the batter of the waffle. Sometimes, I have to extend a bit longer at the store to finish the batter. Now, I am aware that it is not easy to earn money especially nowadays.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

I think the part went well as I earned some money and some experience during my elective posting. I also learned a new communication skill with the customers.

5. What can be improved in this project?

I think I should learn a new skill to prepare the new dishes to attract customers, such as corn dog and fried chicken. Even though these dishes need more budget, I think it gives a big impact to the business.

Name: Mohamad Raihan bin Kamaruddin

Matric no: A184221

Date: 20th August 2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes all the objectives are fulfilled. Firstly, I got to improve my communication skills. During the time of me working I met with all kind of people from all walk of life, this plays a major role in me improving my communication skills. Besides, I do work as a waiter as well so I need to communicate with a lot of customers which improve my communication skills. This led me to my second objective which is improving my social skills. When dealing with customers we need to learn how to approach them and how to treat them well so that they’ll come back again. While working in the restaurant it taught me a lot on how to manage customers which improve my social skills. Thirdly, I got to learn how to manage my time wisely. As it is my holiday I also want to enjoy life a little so I learn how to manage time between working and having fun to maximize my semester break. Lastly, I managed to improve my problem solving skills. During work I faced with many challenges for example, customer is not satisfied with the food serve things like this thought me how to improvise and solve any problems.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

It was an eye opening experience for me since I never work before in my entire life so every single part of it give me an enjoyment since I enjoy the work most of the part. I would say handling customers such as taking their orders, chatting with them and serving them their food will be the part that I liked the most throughout the whole project. In terms of communication that I had with customers it also improve my general knowledge especially with the latest news. This is because most of the customers read newspaper early in the morning so when they come to the restaurant to have breakfast they’ll talk about all the latest news which eventually improve my knowledge as well.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

The most challenging will be to work during the peak hours such as for breakfast and especially during weekend because there will be a lot of customers. To handle each and every one of them perfectly is just impossible and we would definitely be bound to make mistakes. But from this situation I learn a lot on how to handle customers which is a bonus point for me as I can practice it later in a hospital settings.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

The part of the project that worked well will be me learning all the skills set available to improve myself as a person. The time management and communication skills that I learned can be practiced in my studies as well.

5. What can be improved in this project?

I think I should work more hours just to gain more experience. Besides, I felt like I should learn more on how to cook and prepare food during my working hours because this definitely will help me later on if I were to open a restaurant.

The Piano Project Week 4

Name: Lee Kong Heng
Matric No.: A182323
Date: 18 August 2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes, all the proposed objectives of my project have been fulfilled. First of all, I learned something new, which is music. Secondly, I think learning to play the piano has greatly boosted my self-esteem and confidence. I believe one of the important factors of it is the sense of accomplishment. As I become more skilled at playing the piano, a sense of mastery is developed, and I think this makes me feel good about it. This in turn translates into increased self-esteem and confidence. Besides, I received encouragement and feedback from my tutor about my skills. I think this is quite important as these external validations can contribute to a boost in self-esteem as well. I am of the opinion that learning to play the piano is also a challenge for me. Successfully navigating this challenge leads to a sense of resilience and this also boosts my self-esteem. Last but not least, learning music did improve my time management skills, as learning the piano requires consistent practice. Setting aside dedicated practice sessions teaches me how to manage my time effectively. Furthermore, I need to discipline myself during the self-learning session so I can make full use of the time given to practice the songs that are taught.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
I like the sense of achievement of mastering a new song. It is incredibly satisfying. Learning to play the piano makes me more confident in my completing the tasks given by my tutor. This would be helpful in my medical education and career as gaining a patient's trust is crucial in the management of the patient.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
I think the most challenging part of my project is the process of learning to recognize the notes. It takes up a lot of my time during self-learning sessions as I am not that familiar with the notes at the beginning of the project. But as time goes, I had more practice and now I could read piano sheets faster.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
I think a few parts went well, I guessed. Firstly, I learned a musical instrument. Secondly, I learned to be more confident and have more self-esteem. Besides, time management is also improved in this project. Otherwise, I think my communication skills also improve a lil bit as I need to communicate with the staff and my tutor.

5. What can be improved in this project?
I think the time of the course could be longer, for instance, 2-3 weeks. I think that would be better as I could have more time to learn the piano and also I could learn more piano pieces.

Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

For the most part, yes. I managed to learn a variety of areas about the food and beverages industry in a short period of time. I have learnt the importance of the relationship between both supplier and customer to sustain a good restaurant. Helpful coworkers and my supervisor also gave me the opportunity to experience handling the stores and communicate with the customers.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

The environment and the support I receive along the way. Working for the first time 6 days a week, 10 hours a day for a whole month is not an easy task but with the support of my family and coworkers, I managed to complete the elective posting satisfactorily.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

Long working hours and frequent repetitive movement. On the first day, I got a whole body ache and bruises on parts of my body due to inadequate staff and many tasks are given at once. Handling rude customers was also a challenge because some of them were being sarcastic and passive aggressive.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

My knowledge on communication skills, critical thinking and decision making helped me a lot during the whole project. I have the opportunity to apply what I have learned in a real life situation. My last recent posting was public health and the knowledge of workplace hazards has also been applied and helped me during the project.

5. What can be improved in this project?

Working in the food and beverages industry is quite hectic. thus, I do not have the chances to take more pictures and videos during the project as the restaurant is busy. Us, workers are also busy in our own sections during working hours. To improve this project, I might request for some specific time for me to actually learn properly on how to handle a restaurant and maybe some of their menu recipe to make the experience more interesting.

Ukulele Lessons Week 4

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
I would like to say every objective is complete except for one objective, which is to play 3 songs in a video, in which I will in my 8 minute video. As for the other objectives, I've successfully fulfilled it.
I can now properly read a music core sheet for the ukulele, which consists of numbers in comparison with piano, which consist of a left and right hand note. I am also able to play a full song now, which is Minuette, Though pop songs are still in progress. I am able to play fingerstyle music such as Perfect from Ed Sheeran.
I believe I have maximized my efforts into learning this new instrument and it paid off.
2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
I enjoy the part where it all started, the first class. Its a feeling of humble beginnings, where I don't know anything and want to learn something that I never had experience before. From there, I have something new in my arsenal, something to look forward to, something that is as vast as any other knowledge. Watching short videos and learning from an actual instructor made me enjoy the process as it is.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The practice. Every practice in all levels of playing such as from notes to chords and to actual songs. It's quite hard adapting to a new instrument, though not impossible. The pain during practice is all mental, your fingers aching, several failed tries and mistakes, it makes you want to give up before you make progress. Sometimes, it gets frustrating when I practice and keep making the same mistake though I guess that's just how we learn.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
Reading the music scores worked quite well for me. At first I wasn't confident but overtime, it turned out to be quite less of a hassle than I thought it would be.

5. What can be improved in this project?
I think that I should properly play songs according to tempo even more. It will help my timing as well as fluidity. Throughout this journey, I would only do so if I'm practicing with Mr. Jason but I'll do with my own tempo if i am practicing myself. Self confidence can also be improved. Sometimes I get shy to sing along to a song, or play a solo because of the mistakes I would do even though it will help me with my syncing.

Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes, all of the objectives were fulfilled. I managed to learn basic to intermediate level of skills such as swing mechanics, pitching, chipping and putting.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
the thing that I liked the most is the fact that elective posting has allowed me to pick up new hobby. It has always been a thing that I wanted to try out but could not do so as I was busy with my studies. This sport has now become my weekly activity with friends though I didn’t expect myself to enjoy it
this much when I first started doing my EP.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to
do)
the most challenging part of this project is to make consistent shot. There are various factors that cause inconsistent shots. Duffing and tinning the ball will undoubtedly make shots to be inconsistent. Another important aspect of consistency is timing. Consistency will also be influenced by how I
connect with the ground and the way I strike with the clubface. Swing speed that varies would cause more problems as it messes up tempo of the swing.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
chipping and putting were the parts that went well. Those are the skills that did not require complex technique to master it. Unlike swinging longer clubs, it takes a lot of time to even hit a single ball.

5. What can be improved in this project?
Learning those skills were harder than it seemed. If I had known from start, I could have started the class early and take more lessons to hone the skills.

Name : Hamelda Tanisha Ganaprakasam
Matric No : A173343
Date : 31st July 2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled ?
Yes, because I have volunteered myself as a temporary teacher in a secondary school. I have also managed to gain an opportunity to develop personally and professionally by learning a new skill of my own choice in any field besides medicine. Besides that I have also develop my self-confidence by interacting with new people from a different field. I have also assisted the school administrators, teachers a well as students to reach their academic goals.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project ?
To be honest, as a whole I really enjoyed this project. It felt amazing to be back in a school environment after 6 years but this time not as a student however as a teacher. I also enjoyed being in the midst of students and teaching them as teaching was my second choice of profession after doctor. For a change, it also felt so good to be called as teacher and to be admired by students. In a nutshell, I really enjoyed this elective posting project.

3. What have you found challenging about this project ? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The only challenge that I faced in this project was decision making and controlling the students behavior. Sometimes, I found it a little tough to make decisions especially when it comes to providing lessons for the students and making sure that they complete them. I also had to made sure that the lessons that I give them is up to their level and not too easy or too difficult for them.

Controlling the students in class was also not a easy task for me as I am not a trained or a well experienced teacher. Most of the time students try to be very friendly with me and try to take the situation for granted but I tried my best to be stern enough and to control the situation. At times, I try to be a little nice with them by giving them lessons for the first 45 minutes then I would play with them some games for the next 15 minutes, just so that they are not too noisy and naughty in class.

4. What has really worked ? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
In this project, what really went well is that I have managed to gain my confidence. Compared to the first 2 weeks, I this in this final week I have been more confident in dealing with the students and discussing with the teacher. Furthermore, I have learned to manage time really well which I think both of these skills will be really useful for me in my medical field.

5. What can be improved in this project ?
I think I should have planned this project well ahead as this was my revised project compared to the first one that I planned. Through this, I would have been able to discuss with the school to provide me a fixed timetable with more lesson periods so that I will be able to give my contribution even more as a volunteer teacher. Hence, I will also be able to learn more skills through this project.

Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes, all of my objectives for this project were fulfilled. Through this project, I’ve got to sharpen my baking skills and learnt on how to manage business as it was first time venturing into business. I also learnt a lot on how to manage my time wisely throughout this project.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Actually, I really enjoyed every part of baking process. But the thing that I liked the most about this project is I can see my baking skills become better each day. Maybe this is what people said ‘Practice makes perfect’.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

I think the most challenging part about this project is the time management part. This is because I had to make sure the cakes are freshly baked and can be delivered on time according to the customer’s appointed time. So I have to start early every time I got orders.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

I think the marketing part has worked well because I’ve got quite a number of orders from my mutual friends’. Even though they are not following my business account but they’re still up to date to my open order’s date and so on.

5. What can be improved in this project?

I think I can increase the number of orders that I can take for a day if I have a bigger oven because my oven right now is small. So, sometimes it takes hours for me just to complete a few orders.

Name: Narein A/L Jagathessan
Matric no: A181962
Date: 20/08/2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

As I wrap up my elective posting in the world of the Bansuri Carnatic flute, I can wholeheartedly affirm that the objectives I set for this project have been fulfilled. My primary aim was to learn to play this enchanting instrument, and over the past four weeks, I've progressed from a novice to a player capable of producing intricate melodies and understanding the nuances of classical Indian music.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

The most delightful aspect of this project has been the sheer joy of making music. The flute's melodic notes have been my constant companion, a source of solace and inspiration. I've cherished the autonomy of this learning journey, deciding when and what to practice, and witnessing the tangible results of my efforts.

3. What have you found challenging about this project?

Challenges have been an integral part of this musical voyage. Mastering the intricate techniques of Carnatic music, such as finger placements and rhythm intricacies, has been an ongoing challenge. It has demanded dedication, patience, and unwavering attention to detail. Yet, these challenges have been a testament to the complexity and beauty of this art form.

4. What has really worked?

A highlight of this project has been the availability of exceptional online resources, particularly Mr. Himanshu Bansal's tutorials. These resources provided structured guidance and flexibility, ensuring I could learn at my own pace. They've been the backbone of my learning journey.

Additionally, seeking guidance from music experts was a decision that truly worked. Their feedback and insights have been invaluable in fine-tuning my technique and deepening my understanding of the Bansuri.

5. What can be improved in this project?

While this project has been immensely fulfilling, there are areas for potential improvement. The addition of direct interaction with a mentor or instructor would enhance the learning experience. Real-time feedback and personalized guidance could elevate the learning process to new heights.

Furthermore, establishing a community or forum for learners like myself to connect, share experiences, and collaborate on music would enrich the journey. Music is not merely about playing notes; it's about the shared exploration and exchange of ideas.

As my elective posting draws to a close, I reflect with gratitude on the growth and discovery this musical journey has brought. I leave this project with a profound sense of accomplishment and an unwavering commitment to continue my voyage with the Bansuri Carnatic flute, forging ahead as a more skilled and passionate musician.
