We started the season with amazing workouts and very promising practices. This season was the shortest season of my 30 year coaching experience but in the 30 days that we did have together I learned a lot from you all. I learned that you all were destined to have a winning season for sure. I learned that we have growing talent and leaders that are going to ball out next season. To my seniors this a really hard time for you all but my fondest memory was our last practice. It was like we knew it would be our last time on the court this season and we stayed a little later in order to get that last kill, spike, dig and Jayhawks call at the end of practice. Please keep playing and apply all that you learned to the next chapter in your life and sport career.
Jayhawks on 4, 2-4 JAYHAWKS!!!!!!!!!
Coach Vega

“Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off. The right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases.” - Rick Maksian

Dear Seniors,

I believe this quote says it all, especially as it relates to our baseball family. We have been thrown our fair share of curveballs over the last few years, but like any good hitter you guys have fouled them off and shown your ability to PROTECT.

2020 was supposed to be our season. As seniors, it was going to be YOUR season. The meetings. The talks. The study halls. The workouts. The practices. The scrimmages. The batting cage trips. The D-League. The A Division. The wins. The losses. The playoff clincher. The Gatorade bath. The fateful trip to the Bronx. The unknown. The welcome back. The poles. The push-ups. The stairs. The blood. The sweat. The tears. All of it was going to be worth it. This was supposed to be the culmination of all that. A championship season. One that you were going to earn through hard work and by fouling off all the curve balls thrown your way. Instead, it was the season that never was...

However, we know that some things are bigger than baseball. The events that have occurred over the last 3 months in our city and our country are prime examples of that. You will not leave John Jay with that baseball championship. But know that you have conducted yourselves like CHAMPIONS throughout it all and are leaving here prepared for the next pitch in your game of LIFE. You are high school graduates. You are going to college. Some of you are going to play college baseball. ALL of you have left a LEGACY that will carry on.

It has been an honor to be your coach. I cannot thank you enough for putting your trust in me through the good times and the bad. I am proud of what you have accomplished and even more excited to see what’s next. The right pitch is coming boys...don’t miss it.

Love,

Coach K

JAYHAWKS ON 3. FAMILY ON 6 💙🦅

As my first year on John Jay's track team, we have grown in numbers and practices! I admire your dedication and ambition you put yourself as a Jayhawk student-athlete. All of you made an immense amount of progress since the first day of practice, and that progress will continue forward to wherever life take you.

Although we never got to compete in outdoor meets, that does not mean this is the finish line for you. Just like in the meets, with every finish line there is a new starting line. Continue the path of righteousness and you'd be surprised what starting lines you may encounter.

Coach Iboy

Dear John Jay Athletes- To be a student athlete takes tremendous courage, strength, hard-work and determination. To be a teammate takes the ability to put the common goal of your team above any individual wants. Throughout this year, John Jay Athletics have been competitors in every sense of the word. We made playoffs, we fought back in games in which we were down, and we came together to support each other when we needed each other. Now more than ever, we need each other. Our world and country are in crisis. And during these crises, we’ve seen athletes and coaches emerge as leaders. Just like you! I’ve seen student athletes stand side-by-side protesting police brutality together. I’ve heard student athletes participate in town halls pushing each other to be strong and to persevere, and I’ve seen your coaches - near tears because of how deeply they miss you - supporting each other in finding ways to continue to engage you in sports and camaraderie. You, our student athletes of the John Jay Campus, are our leaders. I could not ask for more prepared, skilled and compassionate leaders than you.I’m proud of you and I love you. Love,Ms. Sandusky
