Even though our roles include both programming and administrative/operations aspects, we always aim, whether intentionally or unintentionally, to put ourselves in the shoes of students to understand their experiences. With current events, we use frameworks to create more inclusive and accessible services. A specific example would be Critical Race Theory, which helps to explain how identities change over time along with ongoing societal challenges. As student affairs practitioners, we should aim to ensure that our daily efforts are representative of the needs of our students, which includes delegating personnel and financial resources. An example of this would be in our various community colleges switching the modalities of our services to remote to allow for safety for undocumented students.

Come into the space with a holistic view. When working we discussed that when we engage with students we are not going into the space with theories in mind. While working with students theories come up naturally. Then reflecting on the interactions had with students being able to apply the theory used. One example, is using Yosso's cultural wealth when viewing what students bring to their education. Instead of viewing from a deficit perspective.

Higher education and students are constantly evolving. We need to constantly reflect and critique past theories.
