I chose this section because to me it illustrates how truly horrible the Holocaust was, it made people scared and even when others are being polite and making kind gestures. They become frightened and cling to their loved ones and belongings and “forget how to speak” when people outing of their families interact with them. I chose this quote because it shows how broken Michael is and it’s very saddening to me. At such a young age he is forced to go through so much pain,  after losing other members if his family he is now getting separated with his mother. Aunt Hilda then realizes that this is her family and she returns to them.
