I decided to do different forms of physical and literal growth through the portrait of a young man and him as his older self and through the growing size of clocks which show how time passes. One thing I enjoy about this project is the numbers in the background and how they create an interesting layout completing what would have been a plain white background.  I dislike the neck of the portrait on the right hand of the side of the page because it is unusually large, but it is something I have learned to avoid next time. One of my favorite things about this project is not in the actual piece, but instead the ideas behind it because I was able to create this piece with the help of so many others when I asked for suggestions of what to do, where to put things, what colors to use, etc. One thing I did not like about this project is the shading on the right hand side towards the middle of the piece. I had never done a collage before, but it quickly became something that felt so natural and the contour lines with the glass bottle is intriguing to me because it doesn't have to be so realistic, but still look good. The contrasting colors in this piece fit together really well as there are lighter and darker colors that all come together to create a nice piece. The first piece demonstrates a part of my life at the time where I was interested in Southeast Asian culture and I depicted this through the elephant, while also incorporating one of my favorite bands, Cage The Elephant. The second piece displays a simple, yet still somewhat complex drawing of nature through a flower and leaves. If I could change anything about this, I would add more leaves of different sizes. Materials: Colored Pencil, Oil Pastel, Sharpie, Paper]]> 2016-12-22 02:33:39 UTC https://padlet.com/bfinn2/jmur50g3um5h/wish/144650172 bfinn2 https://padlet.com/bfinn2/jmur50g3um5h/wish/144650356 I have always been interested in completing faces and portraits of people and thats what I was really looking to get out of by taking this class and I am so glad we went over it because I always struggled with the idea of shading and lights and darks and what not, but through these past couple weeks I have really discovered the in's and out's of completing faces and I have found it really enjoyable. I really enjoyed experimenting with the oil pastels as I started off as they allowed for some really nice blending with the ability for cool techniques. I really like the idea of triangles in this project and the idea of threes. I don't really like how the green stripe in the middle is dark, but that could be fixed and prevented easily next time.
