Cancer Symptoms - Pain

Through his pain management clinics in Las Vegas, Nevada, Henderson, NV, and beyond, Dr. Daniel Batlan cares for individuals challenged by cancer pain. Since earning his MD and becoming a fellowship-trained pain management specialist, Dr. Daniel Batlan has helped numerous Nevada patients successfully manage their pain and improve their quality of life.

People with cancer experience different types of pain, each of which may require a different treatment. Unlike acute pain, which appears and disappears suddenly, chronic pain persists and therefore requires long-term treatment.

Cancer patients with chronic pain often take prescription medications to address the pain, but these patients sometimes encounter “breakthrough pain” that rises to prominence and shatters pain medication relief. Breakthrough pain can be unpredictable, though it is usually short-lived.

Cancer doctors and pain management specialists can recommend solutions that fit the type of cancer pain. Doctors can also seek to address the causes of pain. For instance, they may determine that a tumor is the source of pain and suggest options to remove or shrink it.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain

Dr. Daniel Batlan helps Nevada patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and a variety of other conditions effectively manage pain through his private practice, Specialized Pain Management, which has locations in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV. Before establishing himself, Dr. Daniel Batlan earned his MD at Loyola University and completed his pain management fellowship through the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

RA is a serious autoimmune disorder, which is a class of diseases in which the body’s own immune system attacks healthy tissues. In the case of RA, the immune system attacks the tissues that line joints, resulting in inflammation that can be so pronounced, it deforms joints.

Chronic pain, among the many challenges faced by RA patients, can be the most difficult to manage. This is especially true given its inconsistent nature, with RA patients experiencing good days, wherein joint pain subsides, and flare-ups, during which pain spikes to debilitating degrees.

Pain management specialists work with RA patients to address pain associated with flare-ups. Pain management physicians offer a variety of therapies, including prescription medications, physical therapy, nerve blocks, and alternative options, such as acupuncture.

Epidural Steroid Injections Address Back and Neck Pain

Based in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV, Specialized Pain Management founder Dr. Daniel Batlan is an MD who treats patients for diverse conditions of the back and spine. In caring for patients with herniated discs and spinal stenosis associated with sciatica, neck pain, and lower back pain, Dr. Daniel Batlan, MD, often utilizes epidural steroid injections (ESIs).

Part of a nonsurgical pain management regimen, ESIs provide temporary relief. Through ESIs, medication is delivered as close as possible to the source of pain, which helps avoid the side effects of less-focused painkillers and oral steroids.

Typically performed in conjunction with comprehensive rehabilitation, ESIs are most beneficial when the patient experiences acute pain episodes. A distinct advantage of the ESI approach is that the injections are effective in addressing the chemical inflammation commonly associated with back pain. The medication flushes the chemicals and proteins responsible for pain from the regions in which they are concentrated.
