1. Matthew Cuthbert sets out to Bright River station to collect the orphan they plan to adopt.

2. He expects to find a young boy which he can raise

3. At the station he is surprised to see a thin red-haired freckled girl waiting instead.

4. The girls name is Anne , about eleven years old, holding a small carpetbag.

5. Anne is dressed poorly in an old yellow dress that is too small for her.

6. She is full of imagination and begins talking nonstop to Matthew.

7. Anne shares her excitement about finally having a home at Green Gables.

8. She talks about her sad past, being an orphan moving from place to place.

9. She's very excited to have someone she can finally belong too

10. Matthew is shy and quiet, but he listens closely to everything she says.

11. On the way back, Anne notices the green Gables scenery and admires its beauty.

12. She invents special names for the places, like “The White Way of Delight.”

13. Anne shows her love for nature, beauty, in her talkitive way.

14. She admits she hates her red hair and feels it makes her unattractive.

15. By the time they reach Green Gables, Matthew is charmed by Anne and feels she should stay.Rather then them adopting a new child or taking her back to the orphanage.
