More importantly, he knew how to lead us as a team and keep friction down to a minimum. 

He's also just a really good guy, kind and always ready to help any of us with anything as much as he could.

He fought in WW2 and led a small band of guerilla fighters in the Visayas region. I read his war diaries and they were illustrative of a brave, daring and committed soldier who cared deeply for the men under him and often saw them as his extended family. 

He never lost sight of the objective and was ever hell-bent on expelling the enemy from his homeland. But even so he was always parsimonious with the lives of his men and always saw to their welfare. He suffered bouts of deep remorse and was often wracked with guilt whenever he lost a man due to the vagaries and the fortunes of war. Never more so when his very own brother-in-law died under his watch.

Growing up she's always out (out of town because of her work) so me and my brother were left with our yayas. My dad is a seaman back then so he's out as well. 

I admire my mom because despite the distance she still manage the household without us thinking she's away. She teach our yayas her recipes so we can still eat and taste her flavor.  Back then there's no video calls and my yayas doesn't have mobile phone. What we do is we go to the mall and watch movie (our thing when she's home).
