Building An Affinity Space

Great student prompts/activities to establish/re-establishing why students are there, and what they want to do together. Head to page 6 for an awesome activity for students organized around two prompts: “why am I here?” and “where my priorities lie”
- This activity/lesson plan also introduces a way of organizing actions (where my priorities lie) by using a Venn Diagram to organize students' contributions. The three circles are: Support, Social, and Advocacy. These three ‘buckets’ are beautiful ways to help guide students' priorities and actions for the year - helping ground students that a healthy team/community makes time for each others needs and priorities, that our most effective and supportive spaces make time for joy, for action, and for knowing supporting each other.

GLSEN’s Rainbow Library English and Spanish lesson plans support educators to use Rainbow Library books in their instruction. Aligned to Common Core ELA Standards, Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards, and National Council for the Social Studies C3 Social Studies Standards, the lessons can be taught across a range of subjects (such as reading, humanities/social studies, or SEL), and connect to a variety of units and topics.
