In Chapter 6, the author states that Chielo was a perfect example of a women. The reasoning behind in it is because, she was a very powerful person and just because she had a "supernatural power" that caused men to respect her. The only why men were respecting her unlike all the other women, is because she acted and did things like a man would do. I feel like Mulan relates to this because she had the skill to fight just like the men but just because she was a women she wasn’t allowed to. But once she decided to go under cover as a male, she was suddenly respected by men.

Without further argument, Okonkwo gave her a sound beating and left her and her only daughter weeping. "Neither of the other wives dared to interfere beyond an occasional and tentative, "It is enough, Okonkwo," pleaded from a reasonable distance."

Analysis: Okonkwo began to get angry and decided to take it out on his wife by beating her. The reason that he got angry was only because his second wife decided to stand up to him and deny that she didn't kill the banana tree. And then begins to slap her without even saying his side of his argument.

It was a crime against the earth goddess to kill a clansman, and a man who committed it must flee from the land. The crime was of two kinds, male and female. Okonkwo had committed the female, because it had been inadvertent. He could return to the clan after seven years.”

Analysis: When it came to crimes they were always split up based on gender. Male crimes were more of a big deal than women’s crimes. When it came to the punishments the males was still more serious. I feel as if they wouldn’t have a big punishment for women because men as well as their own children need them, especially to make them dinner.

"Okonkwo was popularly called the ‘Roaring Flame.’ As he looked into the log fire he recalled the name. He was a flaming fire. How then could he have begotten a son like Nwoye, degenerate and effeminate? Perhaps he was not his son. No! he could not be. His wife had played him false. He would teach her! But Nwoye resembled his grandfather, Unoka, who was Okonkwo’s father. He pushed the thought out of his mind. He, Okonkwo, was called a flaming fire. How could he have begotten a woman for a son?"

Analysis: In this quote Okonkwo compares himself to a fiery flame. Which is considered a symbol of masculinity to show how flaming his temper can be and how much stronger he is compared to others.

She was called Crystal of Beauty, as her mother had been called in her youth. The young ailing girl who had caused her mother so much heartache had been transformed, almost overnight, into a healthy, buoyant maiden. She had, it was true, her moment of depression when she would snap at everybody like an angry dog. These moods descended on her suddenly and for no apparent reason. But they were very rare and short-lived. As long as they lasted, she could bear no other person but her father."

Analysis: Ezima is starting to become a bit more feminine. I take a stick and break his head. That is what a man does. These people are daily pouring filth over us, and Okeke says we should pretend not to see.” Okonkwo made a sound full of disgust. This was a womanly clan, he thought. Such a thing could never happen in his fatherland, Umuofia."

Analysis: Okonkwo associates lack of bravery with femininity which he's basically saying that women aren't brave and that men have more bravery than women do.
