Its the most violent manifestation of discrimination against women and their inequality. The term originated in the 1970s. In 1990 the definition of femidice, shifted to "the killing of women by men motivated by hate, contempt, pleasure or the assumption of ownership of women” and then expanded to “the misogynistic killing of women by men.” The definition of femicide, has changed in the past 50 years, but shifts demonstrated an attempt to find a term to cover all gender-related killings of women.
