Achebe is trying to demonstrate throughout the novel how different African culture is than how the culture is perceived by western civilization. The reader is able to see how male dominance and the importance of reputation in the African culture effect life in a much different way than in the west. </div>]]></description>

It can also, however, lead to the end of a person if they are unable to properly utilize and cope with it.&nbsp;Okonkwo used his fear of him and the others around him becoming like his father to push himself to be strong, independent, and respected.
