The march was supposed to go from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, it was a 54 mile walk and they would stop at the capital building of Alabama. On March 7th the walk began and sadly became know as Bloody Sunday due to the police force which was used during the march. Marchers were unable to complete the walk or even go on for long due to the brutal attacks from police as they gathered. The 600+ marchers were met with nightsticks, whips, tear gas, and violence. This was captured by many cameras and broadcasted to all of America. LBJ the President during this time called a joint session for legislation  about African American voting rights. In August of 1965 Congress passed the right to vote to all African Americans. Martin Luther King- Helped orchestrate and lead the march.
