His diplomacy of realpolitik and powerful rule gained him the nickname of the "Iron Chancellor." Otto Eduard Leopold Von Bismarck was born into an aristocrat family Schonhausen northwest of Berlin on April 1st 1815. His father was a fifth-generational Junker. His mother came from successful academics and government ministers. Otto went to a prestigious school in Berlin and the University. Entering in the Prussia Civil service, but then got board and decided to move back home to his family farm to take care of. Married Johanna Von Puttkamar in 1847, was sent to make the new Prussian parliament speaking against Liberal anti autocratic revolutions of 1848. Served as an ambassador 1852-8162 to Russia and French. Became prime minister and to be king of Russia. Started wars to power of Europe Australia. Used Prussia to capture German speaking territories from Denmark. Got Emperor Franz Joseph the first into starting austero-prussian war 1866, Prussia won. Fought more against Germany. The fought a franco-prussian war 1870-1871. Chancellor of Germany since becoming allies. Causing a culture struggle against the Catholic Church for having to much influence. Died on July 30th 1898.

The US won the war, and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, which gave the US the area that would become the states of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, southwestern Colorado, and southwestern Wyoming. Mexico received 15 million US dollars and gave up its claims to Texas.
