Students should make posts under each world building section for both novel. This section should include a quote that relates to that structure and its relevance to the piece. Please include your name as the title so I can take attendance. Learning outcome: demonstrate an understanding of the text and the ability to recognize world building structure and their use in literature.

"‘The island of Utopia is in the middle two hundred miles broad, and holds almost at the amse breadth over a great part of it, but it grows narrower towards both ends. Its figure is not unlike a crescent. Between its horns the sea comes in eleven miles broad, and spreads itself into a great bay, which is environed with land to the compass of 62 of 183 about five hundred miles, and is well secured from winds. In this bay there is no great current; the whole coast is, as it were, one continued harbour, which gives all that live in the island great convenience for mutual commerce."

This quote from the novel displays a description of the land of Utopia rather than a picture of a map. Knowing the geography of the land can allow readers to understand how the society works and utilizes their location.

"Looking through the front window, he had seen no people: none of the busy afternoon crew of Street Cleaners, Landscape Workers, and Food Delivery people who usually populated the community at that time of day."

This quote from the novel "The Giver" showcases the roles of people in the dystopian society. It can be seen that everyone has their part as some type of worker whose job can contribute to proper functioning of society.
