The song Iridescent, by Linkin Park describes the mood of this chapter perfectly. The mood is one of frustration. In this chapter Hiram is faced with a conflict.  He must make a decision to do the right thing or lie to protect the people he loves. Man vs. self, Hiram must make a decision from two paths, one he thinks is bad because he would be lying and not bringing justice to Bobo. In pg. 125,  The song Choices for Life Lyrics describes to not be afraid and make your own choice. The other is to say the truth about what he knows and thinks happened.

The theme of the novel is racial prejudice. Throughout the novel we can see the prejudice against black people.
