In paris she trained as a midwife in a large meterity hospital. Here she caught an infection in her left eye-conjunctivitis- losing function of the eye. After extensive treatment, Elizabeth left Paris.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Elizabeth hadn't planned on creating a women's college, her goal was to open up the current system to women. However, she found that goal impossible at the time. She and her sister opened the Women’s Medical College of the New York Infirmary, building on the success of the Infirmary. The college expanded the education of women, and all doctors. The college was one of the first four year colleges, pushing forward a higher quality education for medical students. </div>]]></description>

Dickinson acquired materials to further Elizabeth's study, amicable to her dream of becoming a doctor. When the school Elizabeth ran closed, Dickinson referred her to his brother, who ran a medical school in Pennsylvania. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Elizabeth requested admissions at Geneva Medical College, a prominent school in New York. The staff found it interesting, putting the decision to admit her up to the students. The students, finding this all hysterical, voted to admit her. The media of the time ridiculed her, newspapers writing articles on the ridiculousness of a female studying medicine. Fellow students catcalled her on campase , and teachers regularly underestimated her. However early into her first semester, she proved herself to both the staff and students by attending an anatomy lecturer on the reproductive organs. </div>]]></description>

The hospital was painfully understaffed, in no position to reject Elizabeth's help.
