WEEK 1: ADAB IN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

Islam emphasizes adab from all aspects of behavior in life. Among the things that are emphasized is manners when seeking knowledge. This is so that the knowledge received is blessed and can be practiced in everyday life. Among the manners taught are as follows:

1. Correcting Learning Intentions

Intention reflects what a person will achieve when he does something. We need to correct our intentions when learning so that knowledge can be accepted and blessed. The Prophet said in a matter related to intention:

" Verily the acceptance of the deed depends on the intention, and verily everyone will get what he intended. Whoever migrates because of Allah and His Messenger, he will reach Allah and His Messenger. Whoever migrates to the world he will get or to the woman he wants to marry, he will get what he intended. "

2. Honor and respect the teacher

The teacher is a facilitator to facilitate the learning process. We need to respect teachers so that the knowledge we receive is blessed and able to help us later.

3. Use with the Knowledge Given

The knowledge received should be practiced so that it does not become useless. This is so that we can help charity from the instructor and benefit others. As the saying goes: Knowledge without manners is like a tree without fruit.

HADIS JIBRIL

MEANING

" mar bin Khattab Radiyallahu anhu said:

One time, we (the companions) sat near the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace. Suddenly there appeared to us a man dressed in very white clothes and very black hair. There were no signs of previous travel, and none of us knew him. He immediately sat down in front of the Prophet, then rested his knees on the Prophet's knees and placed his hands on the Prophet's thighs, then he said: "Hey, Muhammad! Tell me about Islam.”

Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam replied, "Islam is, you bear witness that there is no one who has the right to be worshiped except Allah, and indeed Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establish prayer; paying zakat; fasting in the month of Ramadan, and you perform Hajj to the Temple, if you have been able to do it," the man said, "You are right," then we were surprised, he was the one who asked and he was the one who confirmed it.

Then he asked again: "Tell me about Faith".

The Prophet replied, "Faith is, you believe in God; His angels; His books; His Messengers; the Last Day, and believe in God's destiny of good and bad," he said, "You are right."

He asked again: "Tell me about ihsan".The Prophet Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam replied, "You should worship God as if you were seeing Him. Even if you don't see Him, surely He sees you."

The man said again: "Tell me when the Doomsday will happen?"

The Prophet replied, "The one who is asked does not know more than the one who asks."

He asked again: "Tell me about the signs!"

The Prophet replied, "If a female slave has given birth to her master; if you see people who are barefoot, without clothes (poor papa) and goat herders have competed with each other in erecting magnificent buildings that tower high."

Then the man immediately left. I was silent, until the Prophet asked me: "Oh, Umar! Do you know who asked earlier?"

I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know better," He said, "He is Gabriel who teaches you about your religion."
