At home, the Jewish traditions feel incomplete since her family doesn’t practice them deeply, and her dad’s lack of religious involvement makes her feel only “half Jewish.” At the same time, her Indian side feels distant too, because of differences like her mom’s lighter skin and other family dynamics. This leaves Sonia caught between two cultures, unsure where she truly belongs, which makes her feel like she’s only “half” of each and not a complete, whole person.
