As a result of Sim's inquiry, it made her realize that as teachers they need to be reflective practitioners. They as educators should develop strategies to focus on each student's learning needs and become aware of what they might be struggling with. As an example, Ricardo's history with reading was influenced by competitive behavior. Through the reading contest, students got conditioned to the idea that it is not okay to make mistakes while reading. Ricardo saw himself as a slow reader and believed a different student to be great at it. Ricardo didn't feel comfortable in his ability to read which never gave him the confidence to participate in class.
