SIOP training has been beneficial for all of my students, as it has better prepared me to create lessons that are meeting the students' academic and linguistic needs. Knowing how important academic language is to English Learners, the SIOP training has better prepared me to explicitly teach academic language so that the English Learners are not left out of the curriculum or the lesson. SIOP has also given me insight I would not have had, and strategies I would not have utilized, that benefit the English Learners, but also are a benefit to all the students I service.

SIOP training gave me a set of tools for both planning and instruction. It provided me with a framework for my planning, guidelines for teaching, and a purpose of my assessment. It is like, now, I know what I am teaching before I actually get to teach. I learned plenty of strategies, skills, and tools to use for my lessons. I have always known how academic language is important to Ells and all gen-ed learners; however, SIOP helped me find lots of activities and hands-ons to deliver the content along with the academic language to my students without making them frustrated nor overwhelmed. My best sessions were Strategies and Practice & Application. It was definitely a great opportunity. The speakers did awesome job making the sessions fun and enjoyable. Thank you for your time and efforts!

The SIOP Model helps me improve in the area of planning and delivering effective instruction to my ELL students. It guides me in planning my lessons in such a way that students receive the appropriate content and language instruction within the same lesson. It requires that I create a content and a language objective which is challenging at first but extremely beneficial for both the teacher and the students. The objectives keep my students and myself on track. SIOP features promote interaction and well planned practice of both the content and the language. The SIOP framework is all about the learner and learning since student participation is the priority. It's amazing to watch my students in action being the ones constantly involved and many times taking over. SIOP and its 30 features have definitely help me improve as a teacher.

Providing a set of various resources, techniques and tools, the SIOP model has been beneficial in helping my ELs reach their academic needs. It has allowed me as the teacher to explore many types of skills and strategies that lead to effective teaching. Implementing the use of content and language objectives allows me to better prepare my lessons. In turn, it constructs a solid plan for what my students’ desired goal is before leaving my class. It is amazing how big of a difference creating and posting these objectives in the classroom has been- students are always asking about and paying attention to new objectives. I love that I am able to present my students with our purpose before beginning any lesson so they are able to understand our end goal. The objectives also pave the way for future instruction as they guide the teacher and students for what skills still need to be assessed. Further, SIOP shapes my mindset as I lesson plan to help my ELs reach grade level expectations. Additionally, SIOP stresses the importance of differentiation during these lessons—diving deeper into prior knowledge gives me the opportunity to gauge what level my students are on so I can effectively support them. Keeping in mind many ELs come from diverse backgrounds, the model helps reach every student and ensuring they receive the proper language and knowledge needed for understanding. It is a framework that does not make you change what you are currently teaching but rather strengthening and designing your instructional approach. I have seen my students’ engagement grow through the SIOP model and it encourages them to shift their focus on a particular task.

SIOP let teachers have clear routines to follow and they make sure students know the lesson’s content and language objectives so everyone stays on track. The SIOP Model provides a framework for guiding teachers to improve their instruction and use the kinds of practices that will assist these students in learning both content and academic language. Using the strategies I learned from the workshops has given me a better understanding on how to help students achieve academic success.

Language and content objectives hold students accountable for their learning. It also allows students to practice language development using the four domains on a regular basis.
The eight SIOP strategies have helped me to stay focused on what and how I am teaching. The content and language objectives help the teachers and students to stay on task, to reach their intended goals. SIOP has helped me to be more reflective of my practices, and pay attention to things I had neglected like wait time and my speech delivery(slower rate, enunciation. clearer directions etc.,) It has also helped me focus on all the four language domains, on academic language,on the importance of student interaction/engagement and on questions that promote higher order thinking. SIOP helps ALL students and ALL teachers. Thank you for bringing it to our district, Ruba. The training sessions done by you,Agnes and Rana were very helpful and enjoyable.

SiOP consists of 8 teaching components. These are components that all teachers are familiar with. But, the training shows you how to take these components along with content and language objectives and prepare your lessons. I use SIOP lesson plans and an outline of the Big Ideas of a properly planned lesson to make sure I am meeting the needs of all my students. My students are aware of what is expected and why they were doing the lesson.

Implementing SIOP model in the classroom helped me to plan and deliver more comprehensible lessons, not only for my English language learners but for all of the students. One of the most important aspect of SIOP is the inclusion of both content and language objectives for each lesson. Defining the objectives, displaying them in the classroom, and reviewing them with the students helped my students to stay focused and be aware of what is the purpose of their learning. SIOP promotes interaction between the students which gives them the opportunity to communicate academically with their peers and practice the use of language. I found the SIOP workshop very beneficial, thanks Ruba, Agnes, and Rana for providing it for us.

Implementing SIOP within my classroom has helped me better understand the strategies I already use and how to improve them to support not only my ELL students, but ALL of my students. I think that as a teacher I use a lot of the model already, except now the focus within my lessons have increased and I can use a researched based model to explain why I use certain teaching strategies, implementations, and lessons within my room. I believe using the SIOP model has benefited my students with them taking ownership of themselves in the classroom and having them aware of who they are as learners. They can verbalize to me what supports they are seeking to improve their learning. They are becoming independent learners in the classroom. They have a set routine in my room that allows them to navigate my curriculum with independence without needing a teacher to continuously prompt them on the next step of their task, they know how to approach that step, complete the step, and gain a sense of accomplishment.

Modeling the content and language objectives help to prepare the lessons and reach the teacher goals. The goal is to help students reach a fluency level in academic English. Students know what they are expected to learn. The SIOP Model helps teachers to increase attention to vocabulary instruction so students become effective readers and writers. Since we have been working closely with primary grades using our co-teach approach, I have noticed a lot of growth and progress with my ELL and non ELL students. This is a great indicator that holds your students responsible when completing activities. This is a very effective model that can help all of your students progress academically!

When I started co-teaching I began to notice that not only SIOP strategies benefit linguistically diverse students but students with learning difficulties and even more advanced and independent students. The SIOP model is one of the best guides for every teacher. At aims at improving students language skills, academic skills and problem solving skills. Highly Recommended !!!!!!!!

Exploring and learning about the SIOP model has benefited me greatly. I feel like I understand the “why” of what I do instead of just the “how”. Being in an ELL classroom, my mind has opened up to provide the most effective practices of teaching and preparing for my lessons. When delivering a lesson, you have plenty of tools to use to ensure the students are taught in the most efficient way. This SIOP training can teach you new strategies that not only benefit the ELL students but also your class as a whole. I feel the biggest success I had was learning how to write content and language objectives. The more you learn about SIOP the more you will see how its framework can make your planning and teaching more effective and make your reflections richer and more worth-while.
