Its commonly known as an artificial kidney or a dialyzier. Its used to clean/filter the blood. In order for the machine to have access to an individuals blood a minor surgery is conducted to gain access to the blood vessels.
In hospitals the procedure is done about 3 times per week for about 4 hours per treatment.
In home settings the procedure can be conducted 4 to 7 times a week with shorter treatment times.
special protein high diets are usually set for the patient.
