Moana itself is a nice story, offering a nice view into this unique culture. Although the film seems to try to break down certain stereotypes by trying to show that the people back then weren't uneducated, they were just wiser in different aspects of life, they reinforced a few other stereotypes, for example: the skin colour, the necklace out of shark teeth, the long hair, tattoos and the trouser out of leaves. It doesn't really seem that they try to promote a cultural understanding.
