The father first tell Jody about the horse. This and how the horse needs to be treated right. If he does not for the horse than it would be sold. After Jody gets the horse from Billy Buck. Billy Buck gives Jody the saddle for the horse because he forgets to at first. Then the come up for a name horse. They name it Gabilan. All in all, this is a summary of the scene that was given to us.

Usher Jody toward the stall
Carl- “He needs some good currying
Carl- “And if I hear of you not feeding him or leaving his stall dirty, I’ll sell him off in a minute.”
(Insert scared-ish jody face)
Jody- “Mine?” (Quietly and small)
Jody- “Well!”  (goes to pet Gabilan but flinches back because he got bit)
Jody- “Well, I guess he can bite all right.”
(Laughing)
Jody- “Mine?” (louder)
Carl leaves
Billy- “Sure! That is, if you look out for him and break him right. I’ll show you how. He is just a colt. You can’t ride him for some time.”
Pony looks at them, then jody pets the pony
Jody- “I ought to have a carrot”
Jody- “Where’d we get him, Billy?”
Billy- “Bought him at a sheriff’s auction”
Billy- “A show went broke in the Salines and had debts. The sheriff was selling off their stuff.”
Pony shakes their hair from eyes and gets pet by jody…. Again.
Jody- “There isn’t a saddle?”
Billy- (Laughs) “I forgot. Come along.”
Walk towards another area with a chair that has the saddle in it
Billy- (Sadly) “It’s just a show saddle”
Billy- “It isn’t practical for the brush, but it was cheap at the sale”
Jody doesn't look at the saddle but only brushes it with their hand
Jody- “It’ll look pretty on him though”
Jody- (looking thoughtful) “If he hasn’t a name already, I think I’ll call him Gabilan Mountains”
Billy- (unsure) “It’s a pretty long name. (pause)(lighter tone) Why don’t you just call him Gabilan? That mean hawk. That would be a fine name for him.”
Billy- (relaxed) “If you will collect tail hair, I might be able to make a hair rope for you sometime. You could use it for a hackamore.”
Jody- (leaning towards the side of the stall) “Could I lead him to school, do you think to show the kids?”
Billy- (Shaking their head) “He’s not even halter-broke yet. We had a time getting him here. Had to almost drag him. You better be starting for school though.”
Jody- (slightly sad) “I’ll bring the kids to see him here this afternoon.”
