As soon as I read that this course will help you learn the best practices for online instruction as applied in a content area of your choice, I knew I had to take it. Like most teachers, in the spring of 2020 I was asked to set up remote instruction without much instruction on how to do it. Just as I was starting to feel a bit confident with remote teaching the school year ended. This past year I taught in person, so I have not had the opportunity to improve my remote teaching skills, so I am hoping to improve those skills through this course.

I want to improve my ability to teach remote learners. Keeping kindergarten students engaged while learning remotely is a challenge. I am hoping through this course to learn about more tools available to me for setting up a remote classroom and to learn from the experiences of others about how they have successfully worked with young children during remote learning.

One of my biggest challenges during remote learning was working around family schedules. Parents were busy trying to navigate their jobs and deal with the new reality of remote learning. Kindergarten students must rely upon their parents a great deal to make remote learning successful, so I am hoping to hear from others about how they were able to make this experience easier for families with young students.

I’m always looking for new techniques and apps to use with my students. It is my hope that during this course I will not only be exposed to new teaching tools, but have the opportunity to use them.

I’m looking for  ideas, strategies and techniques that would allow me to create more engaging content, practice tasks and assessments. I’m also eager to learn from other teachers’ experiences.

My goal for learning in this course is to deepen my knowledge of how best to reach, and engage, students during remote learning. During remote learning this past year, I felt as though I needed to base the learning on my teacher led instruction. This goes against my philosophy of teaching and learning. I want students to be engaged and active participants who drive their own learning, but during remote learning, I felt like the only way to be productive was for me to be the primary speaker. I want to learn how better to develop lessons and activities where the students are in control.

- review best practice for online learning and how those align with my own work. 
- consider how I might apply the things that worked well (for me and others) during remote learning moving forward and to make a plan for implementation in my classroom. 

1.How do you predict this course might be valuable to you?

 I predict that this course will make me reflect on my virtual learning experiences and learn from my successes and challenges. I want this course to help me to feel more confident if we ever have to return to virtual learning. I want to learn strategies to feel as though I am using best practices and what is best for my students in remote learning. I also predict that it will teach me even more platforms to use both virtually and inside my traditional classroom.

I think the big thing for me will be self-reflection on what I accomplished last year.  As most of last year seems a blur, the intentional lookback with specific prompts will most likely be beneficial to me.  Seeing what others have to say will also likely be of good benefit to me as well.  Much like discussion with fellow teaches in my building, seeing what others have to say about how they made it through the last year and a half, at least for now, gives me a sense that I am feeling what others have.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?

I feel validation of what I am doing with virtual learning is part of what I am looking for.  I also think that seeing what else has worked for others is also something that I will be looking for - strategies to take with me and use as I move forward. 

​This course will be valuable to me because teaching is changing. Last year was a perfect example of how teaching is constantly changing, sometimes slowly and other times abruptly. New and exciting things are always around the corner in education. ​Remote learning is not 'going away'. I want to provide my students with the tools they will need to be successful. I think this course will help me do that. 

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course? 

​My intentions/goals for my learning in this course are to reflect upon my past experiences with remote learning, connect with other educators who have used remote learning and learn new strategies that I can put in place for my own remote learning environment.

I think it is important to reflect upon the past. This helps you make decisions for the future. I hope this course will give me time to reflect and get feedback about my remote learning experience.

Connecting with other educators is an important step in improving one's practice. I hope this course will provide me with the opportunity to meet new educators and learn from their feedback and experiences.

​I am hoping to learn about new strategies for online learning K-12, with a focus on first grade. I enjoy learning new things and then putting them into action. ​
